CCIE Certification

CCIE Certification (Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert) is the expert-level Cisco Certification. Cisco offers three levels of certification: Associate, Professional and Expert. Till April 2, 2007, active CCIE Certification had 14,387 people from all over the world and they represented less than 3% of all Cisco certified individuals.

CCIE Certification exam is the most difficult and expensive one too. The CCIE Certification lab exam costs $1250. At this moment there are only ten available locations where CCIE Certification lab exams can be taken, including Belgium, Australia, USA, Japan, China, UAE, Hong Kong, India and Brazil.

CCIE Certification exam consist of two main parts. The first part is the written CCIE Certification exam, which costs 300$ and can be taken online. The written CCIE Certification exam consists of 100 multiple-choice questions.

The second part of CCIE Certification is lab exam which is a full-day, hands-on exam that gives the candidates the possibility to show their ability to install, configure and troubleshoot network equipment.

CCIE Certification exam includes five different tracks, and you may choose which one you are interested in: -Routing and Switching track -Security track -Service provider track -Storage Networking track -Voice Track

All the five CCIE Certification tracks are available only in Brussels (Belgium) and Research Triangle Park (USA). The most popular CCIE Certification track is Routing and Switching track, which constitutes 68% of all bookings. This CCIE Certification track is available in all the ten CCIE labs.

Payment for the CCIE Certification lab exam is accepted only via Wire Transfer or Credit Card, depending on the lab location. CCIE Certification exam cost does not include other expenses, such as travel, boarding and lodging. You must pay for your CCIE Certification lab exam for at least 28 days before the scheduled examination date. If you decide to cancel your CCIE Certification exam, you must do that for at least 28 days before the examination date. Otherwise you will not be able to obtain full refund.

So, if you need a visa to enter the location where you scheduled your CCIE Certification lab exam, it is very advisable to apply for that particular visa at least10-12 weeks prior to the exam date. This way you would still have the time to cancel your exam and obtain full refund, in case that your visa request is rejected.

The CCIE Certification is valid for two years. Every two years, CCIE Certification holders must pass a CCIE written exam to reconfirm their status. This way they can keep all their benefits and recognition offered by CCIE Certification status.

There are three categories of CCIE status: active, suspended and inactive. Active CCIE Certification holders can take advantage of all the benefits, including the right of using CCIE Certification logo. Suspended CCIE Certification holders cannot take advantage of Certification benefits, but they have a period of one year to reconfirm their status. Once they pass the written CCIE exam, they are reinstated to active status. If they do not reconfirm their status before the deadline, CCIE Certification holders become inactive and must start the entire Cisco Certification process from the beginning.
